A Letter About Indie Music & My Band’s CD Release Show Tomorrow Night
April 3, 2009, 9:08 pm

Dear friends,

Tomorrow (Saturday April 4th) we are having our Album Release show at The Beauty Bar. It is a very special night for us as we have been working on this record for nearly 3 years, so it really represents a lot. We are asking, begging, pleading that you come out and join us…No I’m not kidding.

You see…local and independent music is suffering. It is an epidemic that is hitting almost every genre and at every level. Whether it’s right or wrong digital music and the internet have rendered the monetary value of music to almost nothing. Thanks to the economy, people are not going to shows like they used to and venues are closing at a higher rate than ever. Does this make you as sad as it does me?

I hope so.

It should because I know that in nearly every one of us there is a song, a lyric, a melody that is part of who we are. Because music helps us grow as people and discover who we are. It challenges us to experience somebody else’s thoughts and feelings and relate them to our own life. At the least it makes us laugh when we first try and dance to it. It’s the most natural drug there is. Everyday people use music to better understand each other and come together.

But know this. It only is going to continue to exist if people can come to a census on what it is worth and what they are willing to pay for it. The problem is, how do you do that? How can you put a price tag on something that has the potential to become invaluable to who you are or to change how you experience life?

I think by doing whatever you can and maybe putting in perspective the value of how you spend your money and where. Why is a song not worth 99 cents when a coffee or energy drink is worth $5? Why is $5 or $10 too much to stop us from experiencing a night of live music yet we’ll pay $30 for a t-shirt or a pair of shoes. By investing in music you are investing in yourself and that investment continues to pay off forever. Think about that.

All I’m saying is that I know in my heart that music is so much more important to people’s lives than they realize. As the artist I can tell you that we make music because it makes us feel good and we want to share that feeling the best way we know how. Every song we write and everything we say is designed to share something with you that we feel you might benefit from. Whether it be a lyric that makes you smile or a funky bass line that makes you dance our intent is to give you something unfamiliar and present you with the opportunity to make it yours for life. If we didn’t sound unfamiliar then we wouldn’t be doing anything new. Unfamiliarity is the feeling that listening to something new creates so EMBRACE it. You’ll never discover anything new if you don’t look in the places that you never have before. Those places are independent record stores, live independent music events not your bedroom on the internet.

So again – tomorrow we are playing The Beauty Bar at 11pm here in Las Vegas. It’s only $5 and might just be the most fun you ever had in a night. Would you have paid $5 to see The Beatles play in your town before less than 25 people knew who they were? Ok – that was a joke, but really – it means a lot for us to share tomorrow night with you. If you can’t make it out the best way you can support us is to buy our record directly through our website (www.ModernScienceMusic.com). 10 songs, $10 and you get free shipping AND a free instant download of the album in MP3 and can be assured that every dollar goes into promoting/touring and recording time as oppose to making iTunes or Amazon.com richer. If you don’t have the cash yet – join our free mailing list. We give away 4 exclusive members only mp3s on ReverbNation.com/ModernScience

Tell your friends, tell your parents, tell your grandparents. Repost this in a bulletin, or your blog or print flyers for your friends and thank you to all those in advance that show up.

Phoenix To Release New Album May 25th
March 4, 2009, 9:15 pm
Filed under: Cool Band News | Tags: ,

One of our personal favorite bands French band PHOENIX just announced plans to release their next record Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix on May 25th, 2009. Here is the tracklisting:

In the meantime they released a free download of their new single ‘1901′ on their website www.wearephoenix.com. Did we mention for all the musicians and remixers out there that they also uploaded the multitrack session of ‘1901?’ Stay tuned for my own remix of the track?

1901 by Phoenix lyrics:

Counting all different ideas drifting away
Past and present they don’t matter
Now the future’s sorted out
Watch her moving in elliptical patterns
Think it’s not what you say
What you say is way too complicated
For a minute thought I couldn’t tell how to fall out

It’s twenty seconds till the last call
You’re going hey hey hey hey hey hey
Lie down you know it’s easy
Like we did it over summer long

And I’ll be anything you ask and more
You’re going hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
It’s not a miracle we needed
No I wouldn’t let you think so

Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it

Girlfriend, oh your girlfriend is drifting away
Past and present 1855 -1901 †
Watch them built up a meteor tower
Think it’s not gonna stay anyway
Think it’s overrated
For a minute thought I couldn’t tell how to fall out

It’s twenty seconds till the last call
You’re going hey hey hey hey hey hey
Lie down you know it’s easy
Like we did it over summer long

And I’ll be anything you ask and more
You’re going hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
It’s not a miracle we needed
No I wouldn’t let you think so

Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it

Here’s a video clip from their studio HERE

Support independent music and make sure to buy their album and go see them live.  Their first booked show in London sold out in minutes!
